Government of India Organizes Exhibition on History of Coin, Currency

In an effort to enlighten the citizens of India about evolution of coinage and paper currency in India from barter system to e-money, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated an exhibition on ‘coin and currency of India’. The exhibition is held at North Block and Mr Jaitley hoped this “Great Hall” will also be used for multiple purpose in future as well which in turn would help in restoring its old grandeur. The initiative is taken up as a part of a mission to not only keep this place clean but also restore the memories of its legacy.The organizers believe that Indian coinage has played a crucial role in documenting political and economic changes over time which should be known to the common people of India. Many esteemed dignitaries from the finance department were present at the event.
